4 Reasons to Consider a Penile Sheath Over a Pad

Incontinence can be a difficult problem to deal with, but there are plenty of products available to make things easier and ensure you can continue to live a full life. Most people assume this means using pads that absorb any urine that is accidentally expelled, but men can also opt for penile sheaths.

These are sometimes known as condom catheters or urinary sheaths. Penile sheaths fit over the penis much like a condom and are attached to drainage pads that are connected to the leg. While some people may still prefer to use pads, penile sheaths come with a number of benefits.

Here are just four.

1. More Discreet

One of the most common fears people have about pads is that they might be noticeable, and this can be an issue since pads create a little extra bulk and may also create a slight rustling noise as you walk around. Penile sheaths don't present those same issues, so they are generally considered more discrete than incontinence pads. As such, you'll be able to continue socializing with others without having to feel self-conscious.

2. Less Likely to Develop Odours

The latest incontinence pads do a very good job of containing odours, but penile sheaths are generally better in this regard. That's because pads absorb urine instead of containing it. Even if the smell is mostly unnoticeable, you may notice odours developing. This is another factor that can make the wearing of pads easier to detect, but it can also have a huge impact on your confidence and quality of life if there's even a slight odour. This doesn't tend to be a problem with penile sheaths since urine is collected and contained in a separate bag that is far less likely to emit odours.

3. More Comfortable

Even if the added bulk of an incontinence pad isn't visually noticeable, it can be quite uncomfortable. In some cases, they can also cause discomfort since urine is held next to the body. This is often particularly true while sleeping since urine will collect more around the part of your body that is pressed against your mattress. Sheaths are kinder to your skin, and they can be worn easily while sleeping.

4. Go Longer Between Changes

Sheaths are also ideal if you want to lead an active lifestyle or go longer without having to change your continence product. A sheath doesn't need to be changed as regularly as a pad, so they are great if you like to take long walks or travel long distances. In fact, you can generally wear a penile sheath for a whole 24 hours before a change is required.
